I have a short blurb in the Wall Street Journal on both Jaroslav Halak and Roberto Luongo getting pulled in the second period on Monday. Here are the quickest playoff hooks since 1994-95:
Goalie | Date | Team | Vs | Mins | SH | SV |
Miikka Kiprusoff | 4/13/2008 | CGY | SJ | 3 | 5 | 2 |
Dan Cloutier | 4/27/2002 | VAN | DET | 5 | 3 | 1 |
Jim Carey | 4/28/1996 | BOS | PIT | 6 | 4 | 2 |
Jose Theodore | 4/17/2010 | WSH | MTL | 7 | 2 | 0 |
Arturs Irbe | 5/11/1995 | SJ | CGY | 7 | 5 | 1 |
Don Beaupre | 5/9/1994 | WSH | @NYR | 8 | 11 | 8 |
Dwayne Roloson | 4/16/2003 | MIN | COL | 9 | 4 | 2 |
Grant Fuhr | 4/18/1996 | STL | @TOR | 9 | 11 | 11 |
Jocelyn Thibault | 4/28/1996 | MTL | NYR | 10 | 9 | 5 |
Martin Gerber | 4/26/2006 | CAR | MTL | 14 | 13 | 10 |
Both Dan Cloutier and Arturs Irbe had three games where they didn't make it to the second period. Jose Theodore had five games where he didn't make it through two periods. Shockingly, Calgary came back to win that first game where Kipper was on the bench before most people even got to the Saddledome…
Update: several readers have wondered why Fuhr was pulled despite not allowing a goal:
"[Fuhr] Missed remainder of 1996 playoffs with torn ACL and MCL in right knee, suffered when he collided with Nick Kypreos during Game 2 of St. Louis' first-round series at Toronto on April 18, 1996. The injury required surgery on April 27, 1996."
