Want more evidence that the top two teams in the tournament are meeting today in the quarterfinals? Canada and Russia have thus far led the tournament in the ratio of what I like to call "close shots" for and against:
TM | SF/60 | SA/60 | RATIO |
CAN | 34.0 | 15.4 | 2.21 |
RUS | 30.5 | 14.3 | 2.14 |
SWE | 25.7 | 16.0 | 1.60 |
FIN | 25.0 | 17.3 | 1.44 |
CZE | 26.4 | 21.0 | 1.26 |
SVK | 24.7 | 20.3 | 1.22 |
USA | 23.3 | 20.3 | 1.15 |
SUI | 21.2 | 21.7 | 0.98 |
GER | 18.0 | 23.8 | 0.76 |
BLR | 14.4 | 28.3 | 0.51 |
NOR | 13.9 | 28.7 | 0.48 |
LAT | 13.7 | 34.3 | 0.40 |
Admittedly, Russia's came against better opposition, but the third place team is so far behind, I don't think they could have caught up no matter who Canada had played. All productive work in Canada will cease today at 4:30 Vancouver time, with the winner the odds-on favorite to win the Gold Medal.
