Today's open discussion thread, complete with your daily dose of Winnipeg Jets-related news and notes.

Hey all! Here is our feature running Monday through Friday that will bring you up to date on what's going on in the media pertaining to the Winnipeg Jets and elsewhere in the NHL.

Here is what's in the news for Thursday, January 31, 2013:

Although their start to 2013 has been much better than that of 2011-12, Paul Friesen states that the Jets are still finding their own identity. [Winnipeg Sun]

Claude Noel continues to assess his line-up after a loss to the Montreal Canadiens: "There are a lot of things we need to look at. One of them is the lineup. Other things are: Where are we at here in this process of the number of games we’ve played?". [WFP]

Pete Tessier puts Brandon Prust on blast for his antics during Tuesday night's game: "Speaking of attitudes –what about Brandon Prust? The guy must be great in the locker room with all the theatrics he brings on the ice. The arrogance to complain about his "unsportsmanlike" penalty was sheer foolishness. His hands in the air, shot in the back flail after getting a bit of stick up in the face from Tobias Enstrom was the icing on the cake. Brandon Prust, Italian soccer player". [Hockey Buzz]

Despite setback after setback, Derek Meech tries his best to stay positive about his NHL career: "Like they told me up there — which is the story of my career — be patient and you never know when your opportunity will arise. And I know it sounds really cliche, but now the only way I know how to approach it is game-by-game, day-to-day, just trying to play the best you can whenever there’s an injury or whatever the case may be. Just to be ready for that opportunity, trying to believe that it’s coming. I’ve learned it’s the only way you can deal with it." [The Telegram]

Around the NHL:

Bad news again revolving around the Phoenix Coyotes as it appears Greg Jamison won't have the funds necessary to buy the team. [SB Nation]

Our pals at Copper 'n Blue wonder what $550MM would buy other than a new arena complex. [Copper 'n Blue]

Ryan Callahan will miss the next 10-14 days after sustaining a lower-body injury Tuesday against the Philadelphia Flyers. [Blueshirt Banter]

Brendan Shanahan has suspended New York Islanders forward Colin McDonald two games for his hit from behind on Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Ben Lovejoy. [CBC]

The Chicago Blackhawks penalty kill has been exceptional to start the year and us Winnipeggers can only sigh as Johnny Oduya has been a big part of it. Your move, Grant Clitsome. [Puck Daddy]

Not exactly NHL news, but former Winnipeg Jets forward Tim Stapleton scored a beauty in the KHL. [Youtube]

Finally, former NHLer Michael McBain has been sentenced to anywhere from four to fifteen years after sexually assaulting a 15-year old girl over a four year period. [Globe and Mail]
