Jets vs Senators Morning Skate: Can Winnipeg reverse its fortunes against Ontario teams?

USA TODAY Sports

The Jets have lost both home matches they have played against teams from Ontario this season, and now take their show on the road to see if they can fare better while visiting the Senator's in the nation's capital.

A one goal lead with 5 minutes to play at home should be enough for most teams to gain at least a point in those circumstances. Unfortunately for Winnipeg fans, the Jets are not most teams, as they squandered a 2-1 lead into a 3-2 regulation loss to the Maple Leafs of all teams. It was a collapse, but it was not surprising, as the Jets have been putting in some stinker performances both home and on the road lately. They are now 0-2-0 this season against Ontario teams at the MTS Centre.

Luckily for the Jets, they are not playing an Ontario team at the MTS Centre this afternoon, but rather they are playing one at Scotiabank Place in Ottawa, as they take on the Senators who are minus Jason Spezza, who is out long term for the Sens. This should soften the blow that can be leveled offensively by a team that put up 4 goals on the Jets in the home opener in Winnipeg. Kyle Turris, of all people, leads the Sens in scoring with 10 points in 11 games, while defensive phenom Erik Karlsson has put up 9 points in 11 games as he looks to defend his Norris Trophy win.

The loss of Spezza really does hurt the Sens. He was averaging a point a game through 5 contests before undergoing back surgery that very well could see him miss the rest of the season.Players such as Milan Michalek, Daniel Alfredsson and Kyle Turris will need to step up if the Sens have post season dreams.

When Craig Anderson is not leering at ice girls, he is playing stupendous hockey between the pipes for Ottawa. He sits at 6-2-2 with a .950 save percentage through 10 games played, which are terrific numbers that need to regress sooner or later, so it may as well be today against the Jets. I'm feeling a blowout coming on, but it could just be all the burritos I eat.

So how about it? Can the Jets win a game in Ontario today?
