Ohhh man is True North going to be pissed if the NHL 2012 jerseys are legit (BTW - they kinda look sweet).
Buckle up Jet Setters, we need to keep our eye on all these RFAs, UFAs, and bears. Especially the bears. This is a solid article from Richard Pollack over at Illegal Curve; incidentally, Illegal Curve has been coming out with a bunch of interesting articles concerning the Jets lately, so be sure to check them out. Also relevant: the chips are starting to fall. Per his Twitter feed @Astew22, Anthony Stewart won't be re-signed by Winnipeg. He becomes an unrestricted free agent. UPDATE: Looks like, according to a report from the Winnipeg Sun, Rob Schremp and Brett Festerling won't be coming back, either.
So yeah, run and tell dat. Oh, and I just noticed someone else already fan shotted it. But he didn't say "run and tell dat," a critical miscue.
I recently wrote a guest article for Oilers Refinery on what Winnipeg HC could be called -- and in particular, what it shouldn't be called.
Pretty much a foregone conclusion, but relieved to see it's official and in-print.
Atlanta Thrashers beat writer Chris Vivlamore wrote today that Ramsay will not be following the franchise to Winnipeg.
Former Oilers coach Craig MacTavish, Chicago Blackhawks assistant coach Mike Haviland, and Manitoba Moose coach Claude Noel are all potential candidates. As of right now, only MacTavish and Haviland have confirmed their interviews with the media; Noel is rumoured to have already interviewed.
@DarrenDreger of TSN is reporting that GM Kevin Cheveldayoff has talked to Craig Ramsay about interviewing to stay on as coach of the new Winnipeg Hockey Club. Ramsay, one of the best two-way forwards in NHL history for the 1970s and 80s Buffalo Sabres, has a 38.2 winning percentage across 1 full and two partial coaching seasons (BUF, PHI, ATL). Last year, he led the Thrashers to a 34-36-12 record, good for 80 pts and 4th in the Southeast Division but not good enough to make the playoffs. It's hard to tell how good he is with only one full season as a coach, but I find it curious that a guy with such a defensive reputation led a team that seemed to have a lot of trouble in their own end. For now, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and chalk it up to growing pains for this young team.
Newfoundland Moose? Not as smooth. How about Newfoundland Knockwurst?
Flamesnation writer (and Winnipeg native) Robert Cleave combed through ATL's team tied numbers to see just what kind of team the 'peg is getting.
