The Winnipeg Jets are celebrating Hockey Day in Canada by playing the Calgary Flames in an afternoon matinee in Calgary. The Jets are coming off of their bye week, but lost their last two games before that week. The Flames have had an uneven season with the team struggling overall for long stretches.
The Jets are still without Mark Scheifele and Adam Lowry while Brandon Tanev returns to play today. While the Jets are slowly getting healthy, they are relying on players like Joel Armia and Marko Dano who have been able to step up in the absence of lineup regulars and push the offence forward.
Outside of injuries, the Jets are hoping to get back to their aggressive style that helped them win so many games this year. That, coupled with Connor Hellebuyck’s stellar goaltending, the Jets should be able to get back on track in short order.
As always when a team plays the Flames, the Jets will need to be wary of Johnny Gaudreau. Furthermore, they need to watch the line of Mikael Backlund, Matthew Tkachuk, and Troy Brouwer (replacing the injured Michael Frolik) which is a dynamite possession line that can destroy a team with their offensive abilities as well.
Defensively, the Flames rely on Dougie Hamilton, Mark Giordano, and TJ Brodie. They also have Travis Hamonic on defence after they acquired him from the New York Islanders last offseason in a trade.
