Preview: Winnipeg Jets at Edmonton Oilers Preseason Game Four

The Winnipeg Jets are once again playing the Edmonton Oilers in the preseason and this time they are playing their less-experienced line-up in Edmonton on Hockey Night in Canada’s first night of games.

The Jets have lost all three of their pre-season games and have struggled in all aspects, but possibly the most troubling is how certain players have performed. Dmitry Kulikov was given a three-year contract worth over $12 million dollars and he has underperformed this year after an underwhelming performance last season when he was healthy. If Kulikov was signed as depth insurance, it was a bad gamble because his contract is steep.

The Jets still have a few roster decisions to make. They have to figure out the composition of some of their lines and will start cutting players soon for the Manitoba Moose training camp. It seems as though the goalie position in Winnipeg is solidified with Connor Hellebuyck and Steve Mason, meaning Eric Comrie and Michael Hutchinson will play in the AHL. It is likely that players like Tucker Poolman will be down in the AHL even if they have played well enough to make the Jets simply because of numbers. It will be interesting to see what happens with players like Kyle Connor and Jack Roslovic versus Matt Hendricks and Brandon Tanev. The Jets have some decisions to make and they need to start making them soon as preseason if halfway over after tonight.
