Exhibition Game #02 Preview and GDT: Minnesota Wild at Winnipeg Jets

Tonight’s projected lines are undoubtedly a merciless tease by the Winnipeg Jets coaching staff. Mathieu Perreault centering Kyle Connor and Alexander Burmistrov. Connor Hellebuyck playing the entire game. Mark Stuart and Ben Chiarot together again. Oh.

In all seriousness, there’s a lot going on tonight for Winnipeg. Once again, a promising goaltender gets to show their worth, while Michael Hutchinson warms the bench. Another possible top-six combination will be showcased in Nikolaj Ehlers, together with Bryan Little and Drew Stafford. And tonight could very well be Winnipeg’s #3 through #7 d-corps, pairings and all (plus Lake Superior State man of mystery Kevin Czuczman).

Don’t worry, you’re not the only one internally screaming.

As for the Minnesota Wild, the most well-known forward skating tonight might be Erik Haula. Which isn’t to say the lineup is devoid of talent; prospects such as Alex Tuch, Mario Lucia and Joel Eriksson Ek will all be trying to force their way into the NHL roster. Generalist prospect junkies should have a field day tonight.

The Wild will be icing a far more recognizable d-corps. Matt Dumba, Marco Scancella and Mike Reilly are all set to make an appearance, although if anyone can tell me about Hunter Warner, I’d much appreciate it. Kuemper starts for Minnesota, making tonight a battle of the backups (because Ondrej Pavelec, you see).
