AIH 20416 Ep. 22: Natural Disaster Night, ft. the Colorado Avalanche & Carolina Hurricanes!

Hello everyone! Recorded on February 6th, Episode 22 doubled as our NFL Super Bowl Special Edition. Not only were the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers clashing the next day in Super Bowl 50, but the Winnipeg Jets had lost their last game 5-3 to the Carolina Hurricanes, and were set to play the Colorado Avalanche that very night.

As such, it seemed only appropriate to speak with returning guest Ryan Murphy, Managing Editor of Mile High Hockey and co-host on the appropriately named Mile High Hockey Podcast. At the same time, we were joined by new friend of the show and Editor with Cardiac Cane, Brett Finger.

After briefly recounting the Carolina game, which was over in 10 minutes and where Andrej Nestrasil scored an empty net goal on Michael Hutchinson, we bounced between Brett and Ryan with question after question.

Brett spoke of the Hurricanes readying to (potentially) move past an unproductive Eric Staal, while Alan walked back his previous comment about the Colorado Avalanche being "in worse shape" than the Winnipeg Jets. Why folks should believe in the Carolina Hurricanes push for the playoffs, whether Colorado might be interested in Carolina's John-Michael Liles or Ron Hainsey, and confusion over Andrew Bodnarchuk galore!

Among many other topics, we also touched upon whether Hurricanes head coach Bill Peters would be unstoppable if he had Semyon Varlamov, comparing the Eric Staal situation to that of Paul Stastny, what both teams should do before the trade deadline, who is Carolina's Mikko Rantanen and why it's Sebastian Aho, Colorado's aspirations and whether Jeff Skinner is long for Raleigh. Standard fare for us, I know.

Despite both Alan and I mentioning how were were hoping for a Denver Broncos victory earlier in the episode, we gave our Super Bowl predictions according to who we thought was going to win, not who we wanted to. The results?

Phil: Carolina Panthers win 34-10

Brett: Carolina Panthers win 31-17

Alan: Carolina Panthers win 28-24

Ryan: Denver Broncos win 21-17

And how did things turn out?

Oops.

Alan and I then proceeded to talk Winnipeg Jets shop for half an hour, but you'll have to listen to find out what was said!
