Game Recap: Jets vs Devils

A all around stellar performance by your Winnipeg Jets tonight, which saw them walk away with a 3-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils. Despite Bryan Little returning the Jets were unable to escape the injury bug, which struck Marko Dano after he was hit in the face by a high stick from Kyle Quincey in the first period. He did not return to the game.

The Jets had plenty of chances in the first with Dustin Byfuglien missing a wide open net. and Bryan Little and Blake Wheeler’s chemistry together continue right where it left off as they made some great plays together as well. Mark Scheifele was the first to score in the second period with the assists coming from Dustin Byfuglien and Nikolaj Ehlers. Exactly two minutes later Blake Wheeler put the Jets up by two with the assists this time going to the Michigan boys, Andrew Copp and Jacob Trouba. The Jets even had a 5 on 3 power play during the period but did not find any success during it’s duration despite both Nikolaj Ehlers and Patrik Laine hitting the post. Connor Hellebuyck set a franchise record for longest shutout streak. It was previously held by Michael Hutchinson.

Hellebuyck’s shutout streak would come to an end nearly three minutes into the third period when Miles Wood scored a fluke goal to get the Devils within one. Luckily, the Jets recaptured the two goal lead soon after when Patrik Laine scored his thirteenth of the season, going blocker side on Corey Schneider. Nick Lappin scored to keep the Devils in the game and after killing off a penalty from Mark Stuart the Jets held on to the lead to win their second in a row.

All around, I was very happy with what I saw tonight. Bryan Little did not look very rusty and even had a breakaway during the game. With him back in the lineup and Perreault potentially coming back very soon. You may seem some roster shuffling. I have a feeling in my guy that Kyle Connor could see himself getting sent to the Moose. Which isn’t a terrible thing. I would place him on the same line as Jack Roslovic and let them build chemistry together that they can bring to the Jets when they both make the team.
