The Jets did well by all expert accounts in the entry draft and they got a possible steal in Perreault as their third or second line center. But they couldn't or wouldn't grab an elite player in the scramble for top free agent talent.
Chevy talked about parameters and things going incredibly fast the first day of the draft, which apparently is Chevy speak for no one wanted to come to the Peg and everything was all sewn up before the Jets got there. Even if a lot of free agents don't want to come to Winnipeg there had to be some picks of the lesser lights who would have come for a really top notch offer. It really doesn't matter if you severely over-pay if you're way underneath your Cap and can't use the money anyway.
If no good FA will come to town then the Jets are in serious serious trouble and lets hope that's its not just True North pocketing a lot of SMALL CHANGE.
The Jets have two top forward lines and two top tier defencemen in Trouba and Toby but beyond that there is really no quality depth at all.
For the Jets the FA scramble was as much as about depth as any thing else. A lot of teams recognized this and got the depth they felt they needed even if they overpaid with dollars that instantly would have become worthless.
Advanced stats are great but one thing they don't measure is chance of injury .
Lets all pray to the gods that the Jets top eight stay healthy.
