Over the next thirty days, we will attempt to telepathically channel the minds of NHL General Managers as they complete their final rankings in preparation for the 2013 NHL Draft being held June 30, 2012 in Newark, NJ.

Without further adieu, we present our loyal readers with the fifth overall pick of Arctic Ice Hockey's 2013 Mock Draft.

Rankings: CSS (5 NA), ISS (9), TSN (7), Hockey Prospectus (7)

The Skinny: Sean Monahan is yet another Ontario Hockey League player for the Carolina Hurricanes to build their future around. Taking a defensemen at this selection is also a possibility, but with the offensive talent in Monahan and Valeri Nichushkin still available, the Hurricanes should take the best player available.

Hockey Prospectus:

"Monahan is a smart two-way player who has shined in the OHL over the past two seasons. His ability as an offensive playmaker is high end, as he has tremendous instincts, displaying the ability to make quality passes. Monahan regularly shows the ability to slow the game down. He controls play from the perimeter on the power play. He is patient, creative, and he does not simply rely on one dimension, either. He has good puck skills; while they still lag behind his hockey sense, he can make some defensemen miss."
