Let the post-mortem analyses begin

The corpse is still a little warm, lets start poking at it. Please add your insightful, witty, or absolutely wrong ideas in the comments field below.

I'll start and I'll be brief:

  • this is not news. Lack of depth hurts. We have 3 first line players. Two of them play on the first line. The other is stuck on the second line with a guy who should have retired, and another guy who was plucked from waivers. Our D looks good on paper, but on the ice it looks as organized as a Walmart on Boxing Day (or Black Thursday for you Americans).
  • Everyone blames the goaltending. Sure Pavs let in some softies. But he also made some miraculous saves to keep them in it. I am not sure if he plays better sober or drunk. Someone better find out and adjust his diet accordingly. In either case, you can't hang the season on him. Not when his team's best D-man played in so few contests.
  • The GM. You let Jussi Jokinen slip away. You actually took the effort to sign paperwork to bring in Santorelli instead. and Wright. And Miettinen. And a bunch of other guys who showed why they were cast-offs when they arrived. They're not good enough for this league. And none are of an age where they can be expected to get any better. You signed Pavs to a bigger deal than logic dictated he deserved. You are building for the future but neglecting to see that you'll likely be fired before you get to see that youth movement meet it's potential. Build for the future, but look out for the "now". Wheeler, Ladd and Kane are in their prime or rapidly approaching it. If this is not what you're building for then trade them all away now. Get younger talent and first round picks for Ladd and Kane. Otherwise start building around them now. I'm tired of watching Kane skate by himself. it's amazing he scores as much as he does without capable linemates.

OK i'm done.
