Winnipeg Jets Power Rankings Compilation – April 10, 2013

Ed. Note: Due to the NHL trade deadline taking place last Wednesday, we missed a week of the Power Rankings Compilation as there was too much going on. My apologies if you were/are offended.

Every week, various MSM sites put out their NHL Power Rankings, and every Wednesday during the season we compile them in one tidy chart for your viewing pleasure. You can click on the logo to go to the full rankings from each site. And without any further adieu, here are where the Winnipeg Jets rank this week:

Snapped a five-game losing streak with Saturday’s win over Philadelphia, but the Jets are the latest team to relinquish the Southeast Division lead. Their next five games are at home — four against non-playoff teams and the fifth against the eighth-place Islanders — so there is still a chance to turn it around.

The Jets delivered a crucial win Saturday over Philadelphia to stop a five-game slide. The win was the first in a six-game homestand that will determine whether the playoffs are a possibility. Given how poorly the Jets play at home, don’t bet the farm on games in May.

They’ve lost five in a row and eight of their last 11. They have a 27th-ranked minus-25 goal differential. And they hold a losing record at home and on the road. Ladies and gentlemen, the No. 3 seed in the East just became the No. 10 seed.

Good news: Despite how slow things have been lately, they are still only two points back of Washington. Bad news: They have given up more goals than anybody in the East minus Florida. Also, they have played one more than the Caps.

Ed. Note: The NHL does a Super 16 power rankings, and the Jets are not ranked inside the top 16. However, they are one of the 5 teams listed as “Just Missed”, so they have them ranked inside the top-21.

Winnipeg halted a five-game skid — a slide that cost the Jets the division lead — with a 4-1 victory over the Flyers on Saturday. If the Jets can find some consistently and more goaltending like Ondrej Pavelec showed in that 30-save effort against Philly,

A nice 4-1 win over Philadelphia kept theif playoff/division title hopes alive. Now come games against Buffalo, Florida, Tampa Bay, Carolina and the Islanders. This is THE five-game stretch of the season for the Jets, in other words. Coach Claude Noel moved Dustin Byfuglien up to forward, where he hasn’t played since his days with the Blackhawks when they won the Cup in 2010. Big Buff proved how effective he can be in that role during that playoff run. What the Jets really need most, though, is a dynamic center. Now that the trade deadline has passed and they didn’t get one, the playoffs are going to be a struggle, but their schedule could help them.

The big losing streak over the past few weeks obviously didn’t help the Jets, as the high rankings from two weeks ago are long gone. Having said that, the rankings next week could be interesting if they continue to win on this home-stand. Since they only have one more game before next week (tomorrow versus the Florida Panthers), they could have a three-game winning streak on the go.
