Randy Jones resurfaces, signs PTO with AHL’s Oklahoma City Barons

A slow news day item, perhaps, but there are many Winnipeg Jets fans who lamented the time Randy Jones spent dressing on the 2011-12 edition of this team.

After summer free agency and lockout period failed to produce work for the man amicably termed Ran_y — y'know, because he doesn't play defense — he has finally found work as a member of the AHL's Oklahoma City Barons.

The Barons are the AHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers, a team who currently sits ninth in the Western Conference standings with an overall record of 21-18-2-4. After having half their roster recalled to the NHL ranks post-lockout, the team has struggled with consistency, specifically with the youth of their defense.

Although Jones certainly offers age to the equation on the Barons' blueline, the impact he'll make on the youngsters is still up in the air.

In any event, we wish Jones the best of luck as he opens this chapter of his career and are extremely hopeful that his 2013 campaign is good enough to put the 'D' back in Randy Jones.
