Meech Called Up, Melchiori and Pasquale Sent Down, Montoya Activated from IR

The Winnipeg Jets made a few minor moves this morning, all within the organization.

Veteran defender Derek Meech was called up from St. John’s and Goalie Al Montoya was activated off of Injured Reserve. To make room for them, the Jets then re-assigned Julian Melchiori and Edward Pasquale to the IceCaps.

The move sees Meech return to an NHL roster for the first time since last year when he served his entire stint on the IR. The 28 year old Winnipegger has played 128 games in the NHL and another 310 in the AHL. he has registered 23 points in 46 games in St. John’s this season.

Al Montoya returns to the lineup after missing 7 games with a lower body injury picked up in the February 12 loss to Philadelphia. He has a .889 save percentage and a 2.74 goals against average, while posting a record of 2-0-0 in 4 games played.

21 year old Melchiori, one of the Jets top defensive prospects, did not get any play time in his 5 days with the club. He was called up after Zach Redmond went down with his horrific injury. In 33 games this year in St. John’s Melchiori has 4 assists.

22 year old Pasquale also was unable to get on the ice, despite sitting on the bench for 7 games. He returns to the IceCaps, where he has posted a .912 save percentage and a 2.63 goals against average with a record of 14-19-2, with 4 shutouts.
