Tobias Enstrom Set to Sign with Modo; IceCaps Sign Seven

A little Friday afternoon Winnipeg Jets news to get you through the work day:

It is being reported that Tobias Enstrom is prepping to sign with Modo of the Swedish Elite League, pending insurance on the player can be obtained.

From Travis Hughes of SB Nation:

Expressen also reports that Winnipeg Jets defenseman Tobias Enstrom is set to sign a deal with Modo as well. The deal still hinges on insurance issues, according to the report. Enstrom was raised in the Modo system, playing junior hockey with the club and parts of five SEL seasons. Most recently, he scored seven goals and 21 assists in 55 games with Modo during the 2006-07 season. He jumped to join the Atlanta Thrashers organization the following season. The original article, which appears in Swedish, can be found HERE.

Since Swedish government has ordered the SEL to lift its' ban against short term contracts, there should be no issue for the Jets to retain Enstrom's rights once the lockout is lifted.

Furthermore, the St. John's IceCaps have signed seven players to AHL level contracts today in preparation for the start of their season.

From the St. John's IceCaps official site:

The players who signed AHL contracts include goaltender Mark Dekanich, defencemen Derek Meech and Paul Postma, and forwards Aaron Gagnon, Maxime Macenauer, Spencer Machacek and Ben Maxwell.

Training camp for the IceCaps opens on October 1 in Corner Brook, NL. The club will play exhibition games against the Syracuse Crunch in Corner Brook on October 4, Stephenville on October 5 and Clarenville on October 7.

Nothing out of the ordinary here as it was assumed that Machacek and Postma would both start the season in the AHL should there be no NHL hockey to be played.
