Highlight Reel: Winnipeg Jets Top Five Plays of 2011-12

Last night, the Winnipeg Jets accomplished a feat which is uncommon to modern day hockey. Midway through the third period, the Jets broke up ice in unison and converted a rare 5 on 1 rush into a goal – their fourth of the night – which ended in a 7-0 victory over the Florida Panthers.

While the play better described as "The Flying W" by Jets fans is still fresh in the cities mind, Arctic Ice Hockey has decided to create a list of Winnipeg's greatest plays of the year, accompanied by highlights.

Enjoy!

5. January 31, 2012 – Chris Thorburn vs. Philadelphia Flyers

On this night, Chris Thorburn would end his season long goal drought while aiding the Jets to a 2-1 shootout victory over the Flyers. Thorburn's currently has marked three goals on the year, but none have been quite as pretty as this.

4. September 20, 2011 – Dustin Byfuglien vs. Columbus Blue Jackets

In what would be the Winnipeg Jets first televised shift of their rebirth, Dustin Byfuglien brought to life a raucous MTS Centre crowd with a devastating hit on Blue Jacket forward Matt Calvert, followed shortly after by a fight with Cody Bass.

3. December 29, 2011 – Evander Kane vs. Los Angeles Kings

Kane's heroics earned the Jets a 1-0 overtime victory and also blew the roof off the MTS Centre.

2. February 23, 2012 – Ondrej Pavelec vs. Philadelphia Flyers

Again in a game against the Flyers, Ondrej Pavelec makes his bid for save of the year.

1. October 17, 2011 – Winnipeg Jets vs. Pittsburgh Penguins

While each of Winnipeg's thirty one wins has been special, nothing will quite top the final minute of play in their first of the year against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
