Altitude Check: Tuesday February 28, 2012 Winnipeg Jets News Headlines

Hey all! Here is our feature running Monday through Friday that will bring you up to date on what’s going on in the media pertaining to the Winnipeg Jets.

Here is what's in the news for Tuesday, February 28, 2012:

Recapping last night’s loss to the Edmonton Oilers: “You can change the design of the logo, the shade of blue on the sweater and swap out the guys wearing them, but some things haven’t changed for the Winnipeg Jets, be they the new 2.0 version or the first incarnation: The Edmonton Oilers still eat these guys for lunch.” [WFP]

Gary Lawless on Winnipeg’s trade deadline acquisitions: “Monday’s trade-deadline work by Cheveldayoff again paints him in a favourable light. The Jets, in acquiring defenceman Grant Clitsome for free off the waiver wire and then later peddling Johnny Oduya for a pair of draft picks, improved their present outlook while at the same time stockpiling futures.” [WFP]

Grant Clitsome’s thoughts on joining the Winnipeg Jets: "I have been [with Columbus] for a long time. I am excited about joining a contender." [Examiner]

traded for Winnipeg Jets defenseman Johnny Oduya yesterday, exchanging 2nd and 3rd round picks for the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Stan Bowman on what the former Swedish Olympian will bring to their line-up: "[Oduya's] style really fits in with what we do here in terms of his ability to skate. He’s one of the better skating defensemen in the NHL. He’s got a lot of experience. He’s played on good teams [and] he’s played a lot of minutes. With our team right now he’s going to come in and be a calming influence on some of our players." [Chicago Tribune]Our SB Nation pals at Second City Hockey talk about the Oduya trade: "Whatever Oduya will be, I know he can be out there for a 15 minutes a night at least. In fact, I wouldn't be shocked if Bowman envisions a scenario that takes Keith off the power play and let Oduya on the 2nd, because Keith needs the break and what's he really providing on the PP anyway?"
