Wednesday Morning Altitude Check: So you’re saying there’s a chance?

Hey all! Here is our feature running Monday through Friday that will bring you up to date on what’s going on in the media pertaining to the Winnipeg Jets and elsewhere in the NHL.

Here is what's in the news for Wednesday, December 5, 2012:

It seems as though today’s owners/players meeting went well, as both sides convened late into the night. Jets’ owner Mark Chipman was one of several owners trying to find common ground with Sidney Crosby, Jonathan Toews and a dozen other NHL players. Hey, maybe Chip reads the blog! /joke [SB Nation]

Ed Tait caught up with Mark Scheifele a day after he was named to Team Canada’s Selection Camp roster: “I didn’t think (last year’s World Juniors) went the best personally. I don’t think I was as confident last year or had that edge that I like to play with sometimes. I didn’t play terrible, but I wasn’t my best. But now, going through the whole process once and playing the other countries and just being a year older I think is a really big step. I think you’re able to take more of a leadership role and be more confident with the puck.” [WFP]

Furthermore, CCHA bone collector Jacob Trouba has been invited to USA Hockey’s U-20 Selection Camp as well: “It’s something I had hoped to be a part of again. But just knowing it’s here now is exciting and seeing the guys I’m going to be with and that it’s that time of year is pretty cool. I’ve been waiting awhile to make up for what happened last year.” [WFP]

More Trouba coverage, including glowing praise from Team USA General Manager Jim Johannson: "He's taken on a large role obviously as a freshman there. If you didn't have a program, you'd never think he's a freshman. He's very physically mature, he's playing at a high level, he can generate offence for you, he can play tough against the top players and he can deliver big hits." [Winnipeg Sun]

More of the saddest news you'll ever hear as Teemu Selanne's hour glass is down to its final beads of sand. Hurry up and get this deal finalized, you mongers! [Globe and Mail]

Team Russia has also released their preliminary WJC rosters and the host team appears to be stacking up on talent. [SB Nation]
