Wednesday Morning Altitude Check: Dean Arsene, the consummate professional

Hey all! Here is our feature running Monday through Friday that will bring you up to date on what’s going on in the media pertaining to the Winnipeg Jets and elsewhere in the NHL.

Here is what's in the news for Wednesday, December 12, 2012:

Thanks to the ongoing NHL lockout, everyone is losing money. [WFP]

Paul Friesen ventures that the Winnipeg Jets 2012-13 season would be nearly unpredictable should it be salvaged, large in part because players will have a short turn around time to get back into game shape. What Friesen fails to mention is that all 29 other NHL teams are in the same boat. [Winnipeg Sun]

Dean Arsene has brought a veteran presence to the St. John’s IceCaps’ dressing room, as explained by Jason Jaffray: “In Kootenay, he was one of those older guys I looked up to when I was younger, when I was learning how to be a proper captain. He’s a great addition to our team. You can never have too many leaders on one team. With guys like Garth Murray and Brett Festerling leaving this year, he was a great addition in the off-season for us… He’s definitely a vocal guy in the room and on the ice, which is the way I am. It’s great to have another guy that likes to have the dressing room the exact same way as you do.” [AHL.com]

Fun times if you’re a fan of the Washington Capitals (like me). Braden Holtby absolutely stymied the St. John’s IceCaps’ last night, stopping 32 of 33 shots, en route to a 2-1 Hershey Bears victory. We cannot confirm whether or not Holtby’s mom was in attendance. [Yahoo! Sports]

Lockout talks are set to resume this morning at an undisclosed location. Hey, maybe 12/12/12 is a lucky number. [Globe and Mail]

So does the NHL have a scheduling back-up plan if in fact the league resumes operations over the next few weeks? [SB Nation DC]
