According to the Professional Hockey Players' Association, Steve Vezina -- former sixth round draft pick of the Winnipeg Jets in 1994 -- is in critical condition after developing esophageal cancer.

Former PHPA Member, Steve Vezina, was recently diagnosed with Esophageal cancer, which is now in the terminal stage. He is currently in a Boucherville, Quebec hospital surrounded by his family.

Vezina was originally drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft, and retired after the 2006-07 season, having played in the AHL, ECHL, IHL, CHL, and other professional hockey leagues throughout North America and Europe.
