Former Winnipeg Jets' Draft Pick in Need

According to the Professional Hockey Players' Association, Steve Vezina -- former sixth round draft pick of the Winnipeg Jets in 1994 -- is in critical condition after developing esophageal cancer.

From the article, posted on PHPA's website:

Former PHPA Member, Steve Vezina, was recently diagnosed with Esophageal cancer, which is now in the terminal stage. He is currently in a Boucherville, Quebec hospital surrounded by his family.

Steve’s wife, Valerie (34), son Zachary (3 ½), and daughter Eloise (1 ½) have set up a Facebook page (in French only) http://www.facebook.com/#!/PourLaFamilleVezina and supporters can donate to assist Steve’s wife and children through PayPal (http://www.paypal.com) using the following account: pourlafamillevezina@gmail.com.

Vezina was originally drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft, and retired after the 2006-07 season, having played in the AHL, ECHL, IHL, CHL, and other professional hockey leagues throughout North America and Europe.

Vezina is only 37 years old. In this these trying times, we send our thoughts and prayers to his family. Should anyone wish to donate to this cause, all the information is provided above.
