Yet another new feature at Behindthenet.ca

I think you'll like this one: game-by-game charts for every player showing Fenwick ratio, Goal ratio and Offensive Zone Start percentage. As usual, I'm blasting out a crappy looking alpha version, and I'll integrate it into the daily feed and eventually (I hope) into the site itself. But if you look closely, you'll know what's next...The ability to select a range of games and see the results for only those games. I hope to roll that out very soon.

Let me know if you have any suggestions or comments...

P.S.- the charts for 2008-09 and 2009-10 are still uploading (as of 9:25 PM PDT)

Great, great stuff

I’m going to look at Trevor Gillies’ right now…

Well, so much for getting any work done today

Has anyone else ever expressed goal & shot differentials as ratios instead of differences?

It amazes me how close to 50 they all stay. Fenwick especially you really have to look hard to find someone above 55%.

You’re a beast.

Might make it too busy, but I’d suggest adding on-ice PDO where 1000 is at the 50% mark. Not sure what scale would be best, but I guess you could get it by comparing standard deviations.

Or maybe

set the on-ice PDO at 100, and fit values 0 to 120 on the y. That way, it doesn’t clutter the Fenwick/Zone Starts/Goal Ratio but is still visible in the same graph.

Am I correct in assuming that these are seasonal averages (i.e., season value as of game 600 or whatever)?

Wow! Amazing. Is the current season in the works?

Another piece of feedback: red and green are going to mess with the colour-blind in the room. I can pick them out if I concentrate for a second, but it’s not easy. Unfortunately, yellow doesn’t show great against white without an outline.

Unless there’s an option to give different line types (solid/dash/dot/dot-dash) for different measures.

Give me the RGB values for your preferred colors and I will change the charts.

Well, speaking strictly for myself, I found that a lighter, yellower green did the trick. Simplifying from the default colours in Excel:

Red: #C04040 (192/64/64)
Blue: #4040C0 (64/64/192)
Green: #C0C040 (192/192/64) – That’ll be light/yellow enough that I can see it against the red without losing it against the white. If it does disappear too much, you can probably knock the R value down to 40H/64D.

I think something like that would work, for me anyway.

Thanks, I’ll put it on the list.
