Altitude Check: Thursday January 12, 2012 Winnipeg Jets Headlines
Hey all! Here is our feature running Monday through Friday that will bring you up to date on what's going on in the media pertaining to the Winnipeg Jets.
Here are your headlines for Thursday, January 12, 2012:

Joe Thornton is preparing for the possibility of getting booed tonight: "Am I a star? We’ll have to wait and see. It'll be fine. I don't mind getting booed." [Winnipeg Sun]
Claude Noel's thought's on how to better compete with the NHL's best: "You are playing against a team that has won a Cup and emotionally they get to a level that you’ve got to know that you are going to have to dig down and reach. For me, you have to be prepared emotionally, but you can’t practice an emotional level. You have to go through the experiences of it." [London Free Press]
Tim Campbell's not-so-subtle take on how Bostonian's have handled the Brad Marchand suspension: "The city, its hockey team and rabid hockey fans have closed ranks on the NHL and the hockey world over the five-game suspension of bad boy forward Brad Marchand. They are in a bubble, plain and simple. If you had not seen Marchand's Saturday low-bridge check on Vancouver's Sami Salo and only listened and read about the incident here in Beantown, you would be thoroughly convinced that Marchand had done nothing wrong, that he was just trying to protect himself and that the Bruins are virtually the victims in this matter." Okay, so Bruins fans are just like the fans of all other 29 NHL teams then? Thanks for the clarification. [WFP]
Get out the sparklers and streamers, Eric Fehr scored his first goal as a Winnipeg Jet. Has the weight of a 18 scoreless games now been lifted and can Winnipeg count on Fehr for regular contributions going forward? [Winnipeg Sun]
The Winnipeg Jets have played the equivalent of one full game short-handed this year. [WFP]
Jonathan Willis' study on whether momentum boosts from fighting help teams win games. [Jets Nation]

Thought Kane had the best shot.
I wanted to see Kane is the fastest skater races.
Congrats Big Buff!

Further evidence the All Star game is a joke...

I agree.
He has the potential to be one, but certainly was not one this year. Evander Kane? Ondrej Pavelec (though his numbers are less than the others, so I understand his exemption)? Zach Bogosian? Andrew Ladd if you really want a ‘name’ guy. I’d root for Enstrom, though I realize the casual fan wouldn’t want it, nor does he get the respect he deserves.
I’d rate Buff pretty low on my all star selection. Granted, I’m harder on him than many, but I laughed when I heard his selection.

Honestly...
I am not sure we have any players deserving of the all star game. Wins have been a team effort and the numbers aren’t in our favour.
Buff was on pace for 60 points before injury and has been arguably our best D man. It would have to be him or Kane.

I don't think any Jet deserves to be there
But since someone has to go I guess Dustin is it.
I thought Kane might get it but I don’t think he’s any more deserving than Dustin. 59th in points doesn’t scream all star to me.
Enstrom would probably have gone if he didn’t miss half the games so far.
I agree all around.
If not for the injuries Buff and Enstrom could both be in play. They are both on pace for 50 points and they are our best corsi players.
Kane was in play but has definitelybslowed down.

The All-Star Game selections
will always be focused towards two things: a.) the largest fan bases, and b.) the general fan’s perception of talent. Both will change over time, but right now they’re not in a place that would agree with me.
