My brother is a coach for a local high school hockey team and he asked me if I would keep stats for their games next year. He's not an advanced stats guy but I'm sure if explained properly, he would see the merit, which leads me to my question:
What stats should I keep? Now, this will likely be just me, although there will be the kids that aren't playing that night keeping stats but they are often incomplete or just not entirely accurate (hard to get 16 and 17 year old kids to keep track of stats in an accurate manner given the distractions of not playing. I'm thinking Corsi, obviously, but I don't want to bog myself down with trying to record so much that in a live setting I wind up missing large chunks.
Also, anyone have any suggestions on the best way to organize myself in this manner? I haven't kept stats before for a live sport, so i've got a few ideas bouncing through my head, but if someone had some sort of sheet that they use(d) and wanted to pass it along, it'd be awesome.
