Altitude Check: Wednesday December 7, 2011 Winnipeg Jets Headlines

Hey all! This is a new feature running Monday through Friday that will bring you up to date on what’s going on in the media pertaining to the Winnipeg Jets.

Here are your headlines for Wednesday December 7, 2011:

Ed Tait falls all over himself to compliment the Jets, who beat the Bruins last night: “But these upstart Winnipeg Jets — backed once again by another rabid home crowd at MTS Centre — did something to the Bruins nobody else in the National Hockey League has done in over a month and the course of 15 games: They bloodied the champ’s lip and blackened his eye in a 2-1 victory that ended the Bruins’ 15-game points streak“. Just checked my calendar. Yep, still December. [WFP]

Tyler Seguin was scratched last night due to missing the team breakfast earlier in the day. Fun fact: earlier this year, the Washington Capitals scratched Joel Ward for missing a team meeting. In both instances, the Winnipeg Jets were the opponent that night. [Bruins Blog, Washington Post]

Winnipeg Jets talk about NHL Conference realignment: ""I can’t find anything that’s really wrong with it," said Jets governor Mark Chipman. "It’s great that we’re playing Chicago and Detroit. I really like that, as kind of a purist, the fact we’re going to have that number of games against Original Six teams is great. There are some very strong newer teams". [Winnipeg Sun]

Finally, not Jets related but on Sunday, John Steigerwald wrote a piece accusing Alexander Ovechkin of using illegal PEDs. Monday morning, Ryan Lambert columnist at Puck Daddy tore a strip out of Steigerwald in his What We Learned (WWL) post. Listen to Steigerwald and Lambert go toe-to-toe in a 28 minute radio battle held on Tuesday, in which we find out that Sidney Crosby is in fact; A VAMPIRE! [Puck Daddy]
