Behold, the Future: Jets Prospects Update, Nov. 4th
As promised a couple of weeks ago, I want to make a habit of looking at our prospects down at the farm every other Friday or so. Since the inaugural "Behold, the Future" (called at the time the much-less-catchy "Hi Prospects, Whaaaat's Happening?"), the St. John's IceCaps have held strong atop the Atlantic Division, with a 6-2-3 record (at the previous posting, they had been 3-1 through their first four games). Our ECHL affiliate, the Colorado Eagles (who admittedly don't have a lot of our signed prospects), are having a so-so season so far, going 4-3 through 7 games. Let's have a look at those young 'uns.

Observations: A big slowdown from Carl Klingberg, who had scored 6 goals in the first 6 games, but hey, he's young, it happens. Good to see a guy like Spencer Machacek picking up the pace; he could make for a nifty 4th or 3rd liner someday. Zach Redmond is looking good defensively, and it's possible we see him before Paul Postma or Arturs Kulda. On the downside, Patrice Cormier and Jason Gregoire do not appear to be NHL-ready right now, and my hunch is that Cormier never will be. One last positive? With Peter Mannino moving up to the NHL, promising young keeper Edward Pasquale has gotten a couple of starts, and played well. He really deserves a spot on the AHL roster, as the David Aebischer Show needs to get the hook.

Observations: Mark Scheifele down in the OHL is a man possessed. Truth be told, the Barrie Colts in general are going nuts offensively, but Scheifele adds a little more fuel to the fire. Adam Lowry and Austen Brassard are also doing well, and apparently Lowry returned to the WHL with a major chip on his shoulder. Nothing else really jumps out at me here, which isn't a good sign, though I'll be interested to see what Akim Aliu can do given some playing time. Jason Kasdorf looks like a wreck on a bad Des Moines team, and unfortunately for him, he can't afford to struggle at the USHL level.

Scheifele
Currently on pace for 28G 114A and 142PTS in 57 games. He won’t keep up that torrid of a pace but he should be a 90-100 point player this year.

I’m actually of the opinion he CAN keep up that pace

WJHC
If he makes the World Junior roster, that will be another 7-10 games lost which will bring down his totals a bit.

Wasn’t really thinking along those lines, but true. I’m just thinking that 2.5 points per game is definitely within his abilities

re: Scheifele
It’s a heavy order, but attainable. He will have to start putting the puck in the net.
2.5PTS per game is difficult to produce when relying on others to finish for you.
by TJCAPS on Nov 4, 2011 6:06 PM EDT via iPhone app up reply actions
Pearson, Hall and Behenna are capable of scoring
And while he is going to score goals his production will come primarily from assists. 2.5 won’t be easy by any stretch, but I think he can do it. that might be unrealistic of me but so be it

I hope he does blow up the OHL this year. I thought he would be taken in between picks 12-16, but the Jets can look like geniuses if he keeps developing.

Cormier is at best a 4th line guy IMO. I think he is scrappy enough to be effective there.
I am interested to if Telegin can get rolling now. He was hurt for a while and now he has Scheifele to feed him the puck.
I really wish
the OHL, WHL, and SEL sites kept track of shots for me…

I really wish
I could find somewhere that shows blocked shots when looking at the whole team, not just in the spilt stats of player profiles. i’d like to know who’s leading the NHL right now because Stuart has 33 and I want to know where he ranks

Stuart is 7th.
But as we all know blocked shots are hard to take seriously due to scorer’s bias.

You have to dig in the SEL but it is there.
Go to: http://estat.hockeyligan.se/c/LPDFReports.aspx?LId=248
Pick the PDF option of: Samlad spelarstatistik – Elitserien 2011/2012
Also, if you go to the team sites you should be able to pull up the game by game stats if you are so inclined. I did it last year for Adam Larsson’s team Skelleftea.

As you will see, you also get FO stuff there too.

I’d say Zach Yuen jumps out at me. His offensive pace has slowed down, but at the beginning he was almost PPG (which is almost unrealistic for a d-man). He’s still a steady plus just like last year, but it really does look like he’s trying to add offensive tools to his game this year. The kid just seems like an overall solid prospect.
My only hesitation with Yuen
is he looked pretty bad in the Young Stars tournament and preseason this year. Don’t know if it was from being star-struck or what, but he didn’t look nearly as offensively capable as his WHL numbers suggested.
