Altitude Check: Monday December 19, 2011 Winnipeg Jets Headlines

Hey all! This is a feature running Monday through Friday that will bring you up to date on what’s going on in the media pertaining to the Winnipeg Jets.

Here are your headlines for Monday December 19, 2011:

Teemu Selanne tribute video! [Jets TV]

More Selanne-mania, as the Winnipeg crowd made him feel right at home. [WFP]

Selanne's thoughts on Saturday night: "It was unbelievable. I didn’t really know what to expect. It was something I could never imagine, it was so special." We love you, Teemu! [Globe & Mail]

NSFW: Our SB Nation pals over at Anaheim Calling were not impressed with Andrew Ladd’s game winning goal: “Winnipeg’s fourth goal scored by Andrew Ladd was bullshit. Flip this situation around and put Corey Perry in where Nik Antropov was. Not only would that goal waived off, reviewed and confirmed as no-goal, but Perry would get a minor for goalie interference.” I was actually surprised that the goal didn’t get reviewed to determine if Ladd used a kicking motion. [Anaheim Calling]

Saturday night was fun and all, but Claude Noel knows the Jets now have their sights set on the New York Islanders: “We gotta focus on having a good week.” [Winnipeg Sun]

Gary Lawless preens Jets back-up goaltender Chris Mason in his Sunday article: “Mason now owns a 4-2 record and entered Saturday’s game with a 2.08 goal- against average and a .911 save percentage. When Noel has given him the net, he’s been vicious in his defence of the goal line.” I am a huge Chris Mason fan and think he should get more work, but lets pump the breaks here. Mason has three wins against the Carolina Hurricanes and one against the Anaheim Ducks both of whom rank 22nd and 28th respectively in goals per game. In his appearances versus Phoenix, New York and Philadelphia Mason has not posted a save percentage over .900. His goal line defense needs to be more “vicious” than that, but if the Jets want to keep pace in the East, they can’t burn out Ondrej Pavelec. [WFP]

Bryan Little left Saturday’s game with an undisclosed injury after blocking a shot in the first period. Further details have yet to be released. [NHL]

Antti Miettinen’s life has been a whirlwind this past week but now appears to be settling down. Look for him to be ready to go for Tuesday night. [Winnipeg Sun]

Puck Daddy's Ryan Lambert on What We Learned, echoing the sentiment of Gary Lawless: "Chris Mason is pretty quietly having a strong season as the Jets' backup. He's 4-2-0 in eight appearances and his stats are better than Ondrej Pavelec's (though the reasons for the latter point should be obvious)." [WWL]

Mark Scheifele’s long road to the NHL Entry Draft and now representing Team Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championships. [WFP]

It’s a week late, but listen to AIH’s Gabe Desjardins on Illegal Curve Radio. Fast forward to 27:10 mark for your listening pleasure. He takes a solid jab at Keith Tkachuk and his buffet prowess! [Illegal Curve]

Finally, the oft-injured Martin Havlat cannot catch a break. In a game where he scored his second (!) goal of the season, he also hurt himself making a line change. Sharks fans are still awaiting an update on how bad the injury is. [Puck Daddy]
