Overall, there were 270 cards handed out over 64 games:

Yellow First Second Red
Hand 18 17 1 2
Foul 176 172 4 2
Argument 9 8 1 0
Fight 1 1 0 4
Time Wasting 16 16 0 0
Excessive Celebration 2 2 0 0
Dive 6 6 0 0
Persistent Infringement 4 4 0 0
Encroachment 3 3 0 0
Professional Foul 0 0 0 1
Dissent 13 12 1 0
Dangerous Play 1 1 0 0
Off-the-Ball Foul 12 11 1 0

That's 4.08 yellows and 0.14 reds per game, which is quite a bit higher than the EPL, for example.

You’re kidding on the “6 dives”. Were the refs blind?

Ever get the feeling we are on a collision course with reality?

Yeah, but around 100 of those cards came in the Final match, so it’s not that bad, really.

how is this a freaking hockey site???

Don’t get me wrong I like soccer but there are sites for soccer. I swear I was just about to leave and then I looked up at the address bar and hockey is in the title thats the only way I knew. LOL

Lets talk about freaking hockey

Actually, this entire soccer discussion was very germane to hockey. Soccer has a much richer dataset than hockey and we could learn a lot about hockey if we had that.

I’ve done work for pro teams in the NHL, NBA, MLB and NFL. My hockey analysis is better for having done so.

LOL

I was joking. But my point was (which you must admit is kind of funny) this was the first time I was at the site, and I got confused cause I really thought it was a soccer site lol. Cause on my list for fan sites I joined, it just says behind the net. When I went to leave was when I saw the address bar that said behind the rink hockey.com. I love soccer, which in the US I take flack for, but I thought the whole thing was real funny. I guess you don’t feel the same way.

heh, I do think it’s funny. I just can’t tell what people are trying to say sometimes…Every time I write about baseball, I get a drive-by of people telling me to STFU and stick to hockey.

While the topic is soccer:

Just curious what you guys think about the officiating in general? It just stuck out to me more the usual, I know they won’t get every call right but a lot of muffed calls imo. I think it was a great World Cup other then that. The third place match was one of the best I had ever seen. What are your thoughts on giving yellow cars for diving? The one aspect of soccer that drives my crazy. I just think its a turnoff to your average fan. I will always watch, but could do with out the diving and the fake injuries.

Personally, I’m in favor of a penalty box like rugby (but not like hockey). Diving should be a 5-minute sending-off. Yellow cards don’t do much to stop it because the players who dive are forwards who don’t often get other cards – so they’d have to get caught diving twice in a game, and the ref would have to be willing to toss the guy. That happens less than once a year in the EPL and it’ll take decades for it to happen in the World Cup.

Yeah, that would be fine, anything that would discourage them from diving.. I don’t get to see Premier very often just MLS. Yeah at first I thought well if they don’t change this stuff people will stop watching the World Cup. Then I remembered how many people will watch the WC I think its over 700 million world wide so, basically FIFA can do what ever they want LOL.

Yeah, it’s kind of like the Toronto Maple Leafs:

- five straight years missing the playoffs
- the only team to not have a winning record in any individual season in the 80s
- one of only three teams with a 40+ year cup drought (LA and STL are the others)

And yet every game is sold out, and people would probably commit murder to get their hands on overpriced season’s tickets.

LOL yeah funny you mentioned that. We were talkng about that in the Ranger room kind of we are so unhappy with the team that even if we tried to stop going (I have refused to go until sather is fired) the Garden would still be packed. I guess in a huge city like that with the corprorations buyig boxes and so many people the fans really can’t be heard cause the profit is still there. Such a shame great fans with a putz running the show.
