One-Man Penalty-Kills

A little while back, I looked at which players had been on the ice for the highest percentage of their teams' power-play goals.  The dual is obviously which players have been on the ice for the highest percentage of power-play goals against.  The top ten list isn't likely to bring back a lot of great memories:

Player Team Season SH- Tm SHGA SH%
Lorne Henning NYI 1977-78 41 45 91.1
Andre Boudrias MNS 1967-68 26 29 89.7
Charlie Burns MNS 1970-71 49 55 89.1
Craig Ramsey BUF 1973-74 37 42 88.1
Ed Westfall NYI 1975-76 48 55 87.3
Barry Long DET 1979-80 55 64 85.9
Guy Lapointe MTL 1976-77 24 28 85.7
Lew Morrison ATF 1972-73 41 48 85.4
Bill Collins MNS 1968-69 35 41 85.4
J.C. Tremblay MTL 1967-68 29 34 85.3

Over the last decade, the list is dominated by Scott Stevens, and by various seasons (NSH and FLA 2008-09, DAL 2001-02) where coaches decided to rely very heavily on one defensive pair:

Player Team Season SH- Team SH SH%

Stevens NJD 2002-03 26 32 81.3

Hatcher DAL 2001-02 42 59 71.2

Madden NJD 2006-07 28 40 70.0
Madden NJD 2005-06 44 63 69.8

Bouwmeester FLA 2008-09 37 54 68.5

Richardson CBJ 2002-03 41 60 68.3
Houlder NSH 2001-02 34 50 68.0

Overall – and this should be self-explanatory – nobody can play as much on the PK as they can on the PP.  Killing penalties is simply too physically-demanding.
