Rob Vollman has a piece at Puck Prospectus on translating players from the SEL to the NHL. He does a better job than I did over the years of figuring this stuff out by normalizing for the different offensive levels - both in goals and assists in each league. There are still some factors we could add to the model (if we had them) - TOI, Quality of Competition, and in Hedman's case, age. Height and weight play a role too. And, of course, these translations assume a guy is good enough to actually play in the NHL.
Anyways, for those who are interested in translation factors for junior, the minors and european leagues, Rob's going to run through all of them in the coming weeks.
