As crazy as it seems, there's a lot of hockey being played in California these days, including at the college level.  Cal (aka UC Berkeley for those of you who don't follow football) opens the Pac-8 (don't ask) season tonight against USC in Oakland.  I played one un-illustrious season for Cal while I was in grad school, where I was constantly reminded that my fitness and hockey skills had peaked at age 14.  Nonetheless, it's fun hockey to watch, and it frequently draws bigger crowds than Canadian University hockey does.
